Parent communication Answers one question

What to include in a daily report parents will actually read

Meals, naps, diapers, one photo, and one sentence about the child’s day. Everything else is noise.

Parents open a daily report for two reasons: to know their child was cared for, and to have something to talk about at dinner. Design the report around those two jobs.

The five things that matter

  • Meals — what was offered and roughly how much was eaten.
  • Naps — start and end time.
  • Diapers or potty — count and anything unusual.
  • One photo — a real moment, not a posed one.
  • One sentence — something specific to this child today.

What to leave out

Long narrative summaries, weather, and generic “had a great day!” lines lower the value of everything around them. If a report takes more than ninety seconds to log, it will stop getting logged.
